from the President
The first half of 2017 has been an exciting time for Face the Future Foundation culminating in June with the presentation of a $300,000 check to the UIC Craniofacial Center. We are proud to support such a renowned center which is known for its excellence in the treatment of individuals with craniofacial differences.
On March 25 we hosted one of our most fun and successful galas to date – The Disco Ball. The hard work of a dedicated committee was led by co-chairs Isabell and Gus Abello. We are grateful for the ongoing support of Presenting Sponsor Chicago Title Insurance and to our premium sponsors, BMO Harris Bank, Avijit Gosh MD and United Service Companies, along with all our sponsors and supporters who made the event so successful. I’m delighted to announce that the Abellos will be co-chairing the 2018 gala, Motown Magic! Please mark your calendars for Saturday, March 17, 2018.
We were proud to honor Michelle Krage with the President's Award for her involvement and contributions to Face the Future. Michelle, along with Star Events, helps to sponsor our annual summer picnic and holiday party that we hold for Center patients and their families. At the gala she announced the formation of the Adrienne L. Green Scholarship, named after her late aunt, who was also a board member. The scholarship will be open to all current and former patients of the Craniofacial Center at UIC College of Medicine and will be awarded annually.
In May the Associate Board held their 8th annual Derby Party, raising gross proceeds of $11,000. The annual Derby Party is a great way for our Associate Board to network with each other and introduce friends and colleagues to the tremendous work we do. Saturday, July 15, we sponsored our 2nd annual summer picnic. The weather was perfect and we were excited to welcome so many families to the event.
We are looking forward to an exciting second half of 2017. During Hispanic Heritage Month which runs September 15 through October 15, Lourdes Duarte from WGN (who served as the 2017 gala emcee and will return as emcee for 2018) will be running a special on the Center and the Foundation. In December we’ll be sponsoring our annual holiday party for the patients and their families.
This year we welcomed several new board members: Greg Gulik, co-owner of ReachMail, joined the board and immediately stepped into the office of treasurer; Maria Pacheco, VP at BMO Harris; and Patricia Simon, registered nurse and author of two books featuring Simon, the lovable cardinal with a cleft lip difference. Thank you for joining us and supporting our work!
On behalf of the board of directors and the Foundation, I extend our sincere thanks to all our supporters. We’re proud of the results we’ve been able to achieve for the UIC Craniofacial Center. We cannot do it without your generous and continued support. Please consider donatinghere to give the gift of a smile.

Face the Future Foundation Disco Ball Gala
Disco balls and black and white boas transported partygoers back to the ’70s at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago on March 25 for the Foundation’s annual gala, this year themed, The Disco Ball. Led by co-chairs Isabell and Gus Abello, the gala was one of the most successful galas to date.
